Introduction

"Connection" was the fourth piece in the foundational series. The work came out of a period where I was learning hard lessons about opening up to people and then having to re-evaluate where my energy was actually going.

Technically, this piece pulled from everything I had done so far. It went back to the dense, energetic linework from Morgan and SlyFox, but with more intention. The colors were blocked into clearer sections instead of fully overlapping, which created a stronger sense of depth and dimensionality. It was the first time I felt like I was starting to control the chaos instead of just letting it happen.

The piece captures a real moment of closeness that was powerful in the moment but not built to last. It felt honest to make something that held both tenderness and the understanding that some connections are temporary.

Reflection

Looking back, Connection feels like the piece where I started to understand impermanence can be beautiful. At the time, it came from a place of real vulnerability and then real disappointment. Making it helped me process that.

It also showed me that I could take the raw energy from my earlier work and start shaping it with more control. The segmented color and clearer sense of space felt like a step forward technically, even while the subject matter stayed emotionally raw.

This piece taught me that growth doesn’t always look like things getting easier. Sometimes it looks like being willing to make work that tells the truth about where you actually are, even when that truth is complicated.
